What to expect if you're already playing Minecraft on other devices
Can I continue playing my existing version of Minecraft on PC/Mac?(1)
Yes, you can. The Windows 10 and PC/Mac versions will continue to co-exist as separate games.
What happens to my existing Minecraft worlds? Can they be played on the Windows 10 edition?(1)
Your existing Minecraft experience won’t change at all, and the Windows 10 edition isn’t intended to be an upgrade to your existing game. You can play the Windows 10 edition in parallel with the Java PC/Mac version, allowing you to see the new features and provide feedback—and at the same time maintain your existing worlds.
I'm an existing Xbox or Windows Phone player. Can I transfer my existing Minecraft worlds to Windows 10?(1)
The Windows 10 Edition does not currently support the transferring of worlds from other devices .
Playing the Windows 10 edition
Can I play online with other people on Windows 10? Or on different devices?(2)
You can play with up to four other people running Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition or Pocket Edition on your local network. You can also play online with up to four of your Xbox Live friends in online multiplayer gaming.

If you’re planning to be in an area with no online coverage, such as a long-distance flight or a sailing excursion, you can prepare your Windows 10 device to allow you to play Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition offline.
The following in-game modes are supported while playing offline:
- Single Player
- Multiplayer via LAN
The following in-game modes require an online connection:
- Realms
- Multiplayer via Xbox Live
If you play offline, some features, such as the ability to purchase additional items from Microsoft Store, will not be available. Additionally, any leaderboards will be unavailable while you're offline.
If you earn any achievements while playing offline, they will sync to your account the next time you sign in to Xbox Live on your device. Your game save progress will also sync when you sign in to Xbox Live.

Playing Minecraft on Oculus Rift
What do I need to play? (1)
In order to play Minecraft on Oculus Rift, you’ll need to have a copy of Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition purchased either from Microsoft Store, or from the Oculus Store. Once you’ve purchased it, signing in to both your Microsoft account and your Oculus account will sync the game between the two. This also means that any add-ons or skin packs you purchase will be available to play on your Oculus Rift.
I don't have Windows 10—I’m running Windows 7/Windows 8/Linux/OSX. Can I use Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition with Oculus Rift support?(1)
You’ll need to have the Windows 10 operating system running in order to use Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition. You’ll also need to be running version 1511 or later. For help on how to upgrade to the latest version of Windows, visit Windows Update: FAQ (you’ll also be given steps on how to upgrade in-game).
The Oculus Minecraft app is crashing with the error 0x80070422. What do I do?(2)
Make sure you have Windows Update enabled:
- Press the Windows key and type Services.
- Scroll down to Windows Update.
- Right-click and select Start from the menu.
My Oculus Minecraft app says that Windows 10, Update 1511 is required. What do I do?(4)

Restart the Oculus Store and see if the Oculus Minecraft app update fixes this. If not, this may be due to a Windows update either failing or not being applied. To troubleshoot:

The Oculus Minecraft app says that launching Minecraft "failed." Why?(1)
Make sure you aren't already running Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition. If you are, be sure to close the app first before trying to play it from the Oculus Minecraft app. If you continue to have problems, try running Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition by playing it from the Xbox app. This may give you more insight into why the game won't play. If you continue to have issues, you can always contact Xbox Support or click "Contact Us" on the Minecraft Feedback page.
I’m seeing strange graphics issues when I try to play the game. What’s happening?(1)
Make certain your graphics drivers are up to date. If you have an Nvidia graphics card, you may need to visit the Nvidia support site to get the most up-to-date drivers for your graphics card. Download and install the new drivers, and then restart your computer.
I have dual graphics cards and multiple monitors. I can hear the Minecraft music, but Minecraft is stuck on a white screen with “Please wait.” What do I do?(1)
This may be due to some confusion between your graphics cards regarding HDMI input and the Rift. If you have HDMI inputs going into both cards, unplug the HDMI input that’s not associated with the Oculus Rift.
