Well automatically download and install updates windows 10 - already
Hello,
I would like to know how to make my windows 10 machines to force the updates to install after they download from the WSUS server. Right now simply shows as "pending install" Is that a tweak I need to do in the GPO?

Yes. Otherwise it will wait until 5:01 or until you reboot.
I agree with Larry. You could switch your install routine to daily for now instead of weekly. This will allow your machines to get caught up until you can get into just the monthly roll-ups.GrammarPolice wrote:
Are these older machines? With the new update rollups that MS is using you shouldn't be seeing this. The only reason to have to reboot to install more is if a machine is very out of date and has some catching up to do. Once it is caught up, this issue will go away.
Are those update files avail on the WSUS server? If these couple of systems that need these updates didn't download them (and install them) and for whatever reason those update files have been removed from the WSUS server (but they are still approved) then they will not be presented to clients for download/install.
This could also be a reporting issue between the clients and the WSUS server.
Try running in a cmd window:
wuauclt /detectnow /resetauthorization
Then watch the client's windowsupdate.log file to see if anything changes.

Computer Configuration > Policies> Administrative Templates > Windows components > Windows Update
Enable "Allow Automatic Updates immediate installation"
Updates that interrupt services or restart Windows will not install automatically, though.

I believe the Big green man is correct. There are definitely settings to require immediate install of updates unless conflicts with update install restart schedule if have one configured via GPOs or as he stated, requires a restart. I don't think updates usually receive pending install status either unless they require a restart of the system to complete

They will if you have "active hours" configured and you're within that window.

But almost all Windows updates require a restart... STILL.

As you can see above the "Allow Automatic Updates immediate installation" is enable. What is preventing my windows 10 machines to get those updates from installing?
Either active hours or the updates require reboot or interrupt services. Do you have specific updates that aren't installing automatically? Cumulative updates almost always require reboots, so I wouldn't be surprised if those were your problem.

My active hours are 8 to 5. Do I need to adjust that? on my GPO I set the updates to install at 10:00 AM

There has to be something else. I changed the active hours from 11 AM to 2 PM and nothing is happening. I re-booted the laptop twice. The update still shows up pending install.

If you are saying the update must have installed after reboot, it didn't happened. All my settings are in place as far I know. But there is something preventing the updates from installing. They do download but that is as far as they go. Any other suggestions?
Thanks,

All of my Windows 10 machines show 99% install. but they are missing one update. They updates have been approved and downloaded to the windows 10 but they refuse to install.

Hello,
My updates having the same issue as the OP. However the test workstation does not have the option to modify active hours. Besides, shouldnt that option be controlled through GPO and not on local workstations?
Why is my update not going through?

Same problem here, but only with the 1809 update, other updates install just fine - systems restart at 2 AM so outside the active hours. However the 1809 update is being ignored.
