Protect Yourself From Tech Support Scams
Tech support scams are an industry-wide issue where scammers trick you into paying for unnecessary technical support services. You can help protect yourself from scammers by verifying that the contact is a Microsoft Agent or Microsoft Employee and that the phone number is an official Microsoft global customer service number.
It appears that downloads folder is missing from your friend computer.
Which antivirus application is she using?
I would suggest you to follow the steps provided below and update us on the status of the issue.
Method 1: Let's unhide the hidden folders and check.
b. Click on view tab and under the option hidden files and folders choose Show hidden files, folders,or drive.
c. Click Apply and then Ok.
d. Now check if you can see the Downloads folder.
If it is listed, I suggest you to remove hidden attribute from the download folder.
a. Right click on the folder.
b. Remove the hidden attribute.
c. Click Apply and then ok.
Once you are done, hide the folders that are unhidden.

My friend is going to download the Safety Scanner and try it later (normally she uses Eset).
Good ideas with the first two methods but we are struggling. The hidden folder did not help and the folder recovery did not work. For some reason there was not the recovery option after right click and I don´t understand why. Problem is that she had the folder situated on the desktop and she is sure it was not just a shortcut but the actual folder (unfortunately I am not able to verify it).
I am just prone to think it is a lost case, but still wonder what did actually happen to it :-(

As a last option we can try to boot to safe mode and check if the folder appears.
To boot to safe mode, refer to the suggestions from the following link:

If you are unable to find the file, it might be deleted by virus. You need to use data recovery application to recover the file. Use your favorites search engine to download the data recovery application.
