FROM CHARLIE’S BREWERY ON THE SLIPWAY, PORT OWEN, VELDDRIF
Charlie's Brewhouse Restaurant, Brewery and Distillery
The CHARLIE’S BREWHOUSE RESTAURANT, BREWERY AND DISTILLERY was started by Russell, a local entrepreneur from the United Kingdom, who has lived in Port Owen since 2006. Russell loves this country and even married a lovely South African lady from Pofadder.
Velddrif Animal Care
Russell is also the major sponsor for Velddrif Animal Care and has additionally funded in the past a very big nurturing programme.
St. Christopher's Multi-Denominational United Christian Church
Russell bought, restored, and funded the oldest church since 1908, which is now the first English-speaking church in the area. The church is called the St. Christopher’s Multi-Denominational United Christian Church.
In addition to this church, a church hall was also built. Sunday services draw a full and engaged congregation each week, with two wonderful, ordained ministers. Through the church, Russell is grateful to help provide nourishment and care to many in need.
Grace Medical Centre
Russell founded Grace Medical Centre, which provides frail care and sub-acute care.
The centre provides compassionate, dignified, and attentive care to its residents. There are currently 53 beds for patients, to feel valued and cared for—either with Dementia, Alzheimer’s, or any other support that may be needed. A 24-hour ambulance is now available locally, linked to Grace Medical Centre.
In addition to this Medical Centre, Russell originally also founded 27 retirement units for the elderly, which substantially increased property value in the area.
Amelia's Haven
Through his St. Christopher’s Church, Russell has founded Amelia’s Haven — a lovely farm just outside Velddrif, next to Bok Makiere Nursery — which provides safe and dignified accommodation to those in need. This establishment is in the hands of wonderful, caring people who give back to the community with love and care, helping to make this establishment feel like home.
This Safe Haven offers three meals a day, affordable accommodation in private rooms, with a lovely dining area and braai area. Additionally, there are lovely gardens and an undercover parking area. This accommodation initiative for those in need of affordability has been a resounding success, with no rooms available now. We invite you to visit Anton and Elize at Amelia’s Haven to experience this facility.
